Storms Dudley and Eunice have decided to gate crash February and ensure our gardens are tested to the absolute limit. Like many I’m sure, we woke up this morning with bated breath as we drew back the curtains to examine the damage of 80mph winds that swirled around the UK. Wheelie bins upturned and halfway across the lawn, Aunty Winnie’s favourite plant pot blown over and smashed, whilst the trampoline and football goal decided they prefer our neighbours garden! Thankfully our greenhouse is standing strong and proud with its sturdy aluminium frame, but if you haven’t already done so, be sure to close all the greenhouse vents and keep the door firmly closed to keep the strong winds from circulating inside. Hopefully the storms will pass over the coming days and we can get back into the garden to reset and prep for the months ahead.
Here a few little tips on what can be done this February;
- Water more often, but make sure not to overwater the soil
- Cover tender plants if necessary
- Spray pests if necessary
- Prepare seed trays
- Sow Bedding Plant seeds
- Bring stored Fuchsia Hydrangea and Dahlia into sunlight
- Sow Tomato seeds
- Sow Onions, Parsnips, Sprouts, Cabbage, Broad Beans, Peas and Aubergines
- Pot up Strawberry runners
Stay safe in the storms and happy growing when you can!
